One Piece

ONE PIECE
T he age of pirates and treasure hunters was a time when the world was still full of mystery and magic. Men and (occasionally) women went out to sea, hoping to fulfill their dreams of wealth and fame. Among all the legendary treasures, every pirate dreams of getting their hands on the biggest in existence - the "One Piece", originally discovered by the legendary late Pirate King, Gold Roger.
This Manga and Anime series is a tale of a time when the "One Piece" could bring wealth, fame, and power to its owner.
In a small, peaceful village, there lives a boy called Monkey D. Luffy. His dream is to become a member of a band of pirates. Luffy looks up to his hero, the pirate captain "Red-haired Shanks" as a role model and sets himself the unbelievable goal of becoming the "Pirate King" by finding the legendary "One Piece".
Our tiny hero later eats the magical "Devil's Fruit" at a pub feast hosted by Red-haired Shanks. This event puts an unexpected twist on his pirating potential: If you want a career sailing over the Seven Seas, the ability to swim comes in handy, but since Luffy ate the Devil's Fruit, he'll never be able to swim again. (As an interesting aside, the Japanese term for those who can't swim is "kanaduji" - meaning "a iron hammer".)
It isn't all bad news for Luffy though. As a trade-off for giving up his swimming skills (well, actually he couldn't swim in the first place, but was intending to practice) he gained the strange ability to stretch his limbs like elastic and became a "rubber-human".
Luffy eventually sets out to sea by himself and picks up some "comrades" along the way - future swordsman Roronoa Zoro, navigator Nami, trickster Usopp, and Sanji the cook.
Together they head for the "Grand Line", the legendary sea route that is said to be the only way to the where the fabled "One Piece" lies.
If you like comedy/fantasy with some action, this series is really good. The tempo is very quick and seldom lets up. Sometimes it gets a little serious for a while, but there are all kinds of hidden gags and comedy elements.
The author also likes to play around in the comic books by hiding something very humorous in the crowds of people (if you can spot that, gee, you're looking deeeep in this).

One Piece is also a great quest-like tale of camaraderie to boot. If you are looking for a Manga that makes you laugh this series is well worth reading.
